Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, while launching the Bharatiya Janata Party’s poll campaign in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Guwahati at Khanapara ground on Saturday, addressed the “Booth Vijay Sankalpa” meeting and assured the BJP’s return in this year’s assembly elections. He promised 2 lakh government jobs, up from 1.56 lakh in the past five years. Emphasising the removal of illegal settlements, the CM stated that 5 lakh bighas of encroached land would be freed in the next term.

The Prime Minister, taking over the stage, said, “We all have one mantra, and that is ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.” He referred to the Northeast as the “Astalakshmi” and mentioned that more budget funds have been allocated for the region’s development, promoting self-reliance and connectivity. The PM added that his “Pariksha Pe Charcha” on the River Brahmaputra aimed to promote river tourism.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived on a day-long visit to Assam to inaugurate an emergency landing facility (ELF) and launch projects worth over Rs 5,500 crore.

Remembering the Pulwama terror incident, the PM paid tribute to the victims, stating that India had retaliated and the world had witnessed the response, including Operation Sindoor. Criticising the Congress, the Prime Minister claimed that the party never respected Mother India and always put it in danger.

During the 70 years of Congress rule, only three bridges were built over the Brahmaputra. In contrast, five bridges have been constructed in 10 years under the BJP government. The new “Bhaskar Barma Bridge” over the Brahmaputra was inaugurated by the Prime Minister, connecting the main Guwahati city to North Guwahati.

While the Assam CM and the BJP government highlighted their development works, including the historic landing of the Prime Minister in Moran ELF on a Hercules C-130, opposition leader Akhil Gogoi downplayed its significance, saying it had no relation to development. State Congress president Gaurav Gogoi criticised the India-US trade deal, calling it detrimental to the country’s farmers.
