'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' POSTPONED to December 2026 and 2027

The wait for the next Avengers films just got longer! Marvel fans eagerly anticipating the Russo Brothers’ directorial, will now have to wait 6 months longer than initially expected, to see Earth’s Mightiest Heroes reassemble. According to the latest reports on Deadline, Disney has officially pushed back the release dates for the two Marvel films – Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. As per the report, the film that were initially set for Summer 2026 and 2027 releases, will now hit cinemas on 18 December 2026, while Secret Wars has been rescheduled for 17 December 2027, both moving from their original May release slots. The delays, come as part of a broader shake-up of the studio’s theatrical calendar with several “Untitled Marvel” projects quietly removed or reassigned. With these adjustments, 2026 will see only two confirmed Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film, namely, Avengers: Doomsday and Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The December launch windows mirror the successful release pattern of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which premiered in December 2021 and became a $1.9 billion global box office hit, becoming the third-highest-grossing MCU film. The new schedule also introduces the longest gap between Marvel feature films since the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the franchise’s rollout. Following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set for 25 July 2025, fans won’t see another MCU theatrical release until Spider-Man 4 starring Tom Holland, arriving on 31 July 2026 — a full year later. The reshuffle comes amid ongoing behind-the-scenes changes at Marvel Studios as the studio recalibrates its sprawling cinematic universe following mixed reactions to recent phases. Though the extended timeline may test fans’ patience, the December release slots suggest that the studio’s move may just be a purely strategic business move.
