Israeli parliament’s (Knesset) speaker Amir Ohana has invited US PresidentDonald Trump to deliver an address before the Knesset, calling him “the greatest friend and ally of the Jewish people in modern history.”In a post on X on Friday, Ohana shared a letter sent to the White House inviting Trump to speak before Israel’s parliament. The invitation marks what could be the first address by a sitting US President to the Knesset since George W Bush in 2008.“It is my profound honor and privilege to officially invite the greatest friend and ally of the Jewish people in modern history, @POTUS @realDonaldTrump, to deliver a formal address to the nation before the Knesset. Israel awaits The Peace President,” Ohana wrote on X.In his letter, Ohana credited Trump’s leadership for brokering the release of all Israeli hostages abducted by Hamas on the October 7 attack and for achieving what he described as “an unprecedented regional agreement accepted by nearly every nation in the Middle East.”“This victory would not have been possible without the sacrifice of our brave soldiers, the resolve of Prime Minister Netanyahu, and the close partnership you have forged with him – and with the one and only Jewish State – throughout your life,” Ohana wrote. The letter went on to list key milestones in US–Israel relations under Trump’s leadership – including the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and the embassy move, recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights, the signing of the Abraham Accords, and the destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities.“You have demonstrated that under your leadership, America is not only a military superpower but a moral superpower as well – and that peace comes through strength,” the letter stated.Concluding his invitation, Ohana noted that Trump’s potential address would carry “deep symbolic meaning,” reinforcing what he called “the unbreakable alliance between the State of Israel and the United States of America.”“Your speech would be the first by a sitting US President since President George W. Bush’s visit in 2008 – a deeply meaningful gesture of our eternal gratitude for your once-in-a-century leadership and for the unbreakable alliance between the State of Israel and the United States of America. Israel awaits The Peace President,” Ohana wrote. The invite comes amid what is a breakthrough regional peace deal following months of negotiations and US-brokered mediation efforts led by Trump’s administration. Isaraeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday even nominated Donald Trump for Nobel peace prize for his role in brokering the Gaza deal.Trump announced on Wednesday, that he would be travelling to the Middle East on Sunday, and will be there for the hostage release, “The hostages will be coming back Monday or Tuesday. I’ll probably be there – I hope to be there… I look forward to it.”Although it’s not clear if he would visit Israel. Earlier on being asked where he would visit in the Middle East, he said maybe Egypt as “ as everybody is gathered there.”
