Heavy snow is sweeping across a broad stretch of the United States from the Rockies to the Northeast, disrupting travel and delaying thousands of flights. Overnight snowfall blanketed the northern Plains and Great Lakes, with Chicago and surrounding areas waking up to several inches of fresh powder. Totals reached more than 9 inches in parts of South Dakota and Iowa, while Chicago O’Hare International Airport recorded about 4 inches. By Sunday, the system pushed east, bringing light snow to states from Ohio to New York, with most areas expecting 2 to 5 inches before conditions taper off early Monday. The winter blast has had major travel impacts. As of Sunday afternoon, more than 7,000 flights nationwide were delayed and nearly 600 canceled, with O’Hare, Atlanta, and Charlotte seeing the biggest disruptions. Meanwhile, the Southeast remains soaked by a line of strong storms, bringing heavy rain, potential flash flooding, and even a brief tornado threat along the Florida Peninsula.Out West, another round of severe weather is developing as atmospheric river systems target Washington and Oregon with heavy rain, mountain snow, and strong wind gusts through midweek. Flood alerts stretch across western Washington and Oregon, with some mountain regions expected to see feet of snow and up to a foot of rain.
