Prime Minister Narendra Modi tore into Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a political rally in West Bengal’s Nadia district, accusing it of trying to save infiltrators and corrupt officials, while urging people to give the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a chance ahead of a heated Assembly election in 2026.

In a virtual address at a political rally in Taherpur, PM Modi said the NDA victory in Bihar has paved the way for the BJP’s victory in Bengal. “Ganga has reached Bengal from Bihar, jungle raj has been removed from Bihar, and jungle raj must also be removed from West Bengal. There is jungle raj going on in West Bengal. We need to get rid of it,” he said.

“Every child, town and village is saying baanchte chai, BJP chai (We want to survive, we want BJP). Modi wants to work hard for Bengal. There is no shortage of money or ideas for the development of West Bengal. However, there is a government which is busy in charging commissions,” he added.

Modi further said that several development projects worth thousands of crores were stuck in Bengal. He said the TMC can oppose the BJP or the Prime Minister, but asked why it was stalling the development of the state and depriving the people of their rights. He also urged the people to give the BJP a chance.

“TMC is putting pressure to protect corrupt people. Instead of posters of ‘Go back, infiltrators’, they are displaying the posters of ‘Go back, Modi.’ TMC is preferring infiltrators who seek to lay siege on Bengal. This is TMC’s real face. TMC is opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) to save these infiltrators,” he added.

He further alleged that the TMC government picked up all the bad elements and people of the Left Front government, which is why the state was on the verge of being destroyed. “West Bengal needs a BJP government that restores the glory of the state through a double-engine pace,” he asserted, adding that he will return soon.

Earlier, PM Modi’s helicopter failed to land at the Taherpur helipad owing to low visibility on account of dense fog in the area on Saturday. It made a U-turn after hovering over the helipad ground for a while and returned to the Kolkata airport.

Hence, the Prime Minister was forced to address the BJP rally, titled Parivartan Sankalpa Sabha, in virtual mode. He was to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of two National Highway projects worth around Rs 3,200 crores, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.
