Who is ND Tiwari that ex-MLA Suresh Rathore is talking about? Narayan Dutt Tiwari got the unique chance of being CM of 2 states. But his political journey has been scandalous one.

Former BJP MLA from Jawalapur, Suresh Rathore, has found himself at the centre of a political storm after he publicly introduced local actress Urmila Sanawar as his wife. The announcement was made during a press conference held in Saharanpur on June 15 where Sanawar stood beside him.

The move sparked sharp reactions in Uttarakhand’s political circles with many criticising Rathore for allegedly entering a second marriage without divorcing his wife, Ravindra Kaur. Congress has accused Rathore of going against the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and demanded action. In response, the BJP had issued him a notice for indiscipline, asking for an explanation within seven days. The state party president, Mahendra Bhatt, ordered the notice while general secretary Rajendra Bisht said the matter was hurting the party’s image.

Denies Marriage, Calls Photo A Scene from ‘Bhabhi Ji Vidhayak Hai’

After reaching Dehradun and responding to the party’s notice, Rathore gave an interview to the media. This time, he denied the second marriage altogether. Instead, he questioned the evidence behind the allegations.

“Kya aapne mujhe shaadi karte huye, maang bharte huye, ya varmala daalte huye kisi video mein dekha hai?” Toh ye mudda kyon khada kiya ja raha hai? (Have you seen any video of me getting married, applying sindoor, or exchanging garlands? Then why is this issue being raised?), he said as reported by Amar Ujala.

He claimed the widely shared photo, which is believed to be from the alleged wedding, was actually from a film shoot. According to Amar Ujala, Rathore claimed that the photo was a scene from a movie titled Bhabhi Ji Vidhayak Hai.

‘Bhabhi Ji Vidhayak Hai’ Claim Not New

The reference to Bhabhi Ji Vidhayak Hai isn’t new. Last year, a video grabbed attention in which Rathore was seen combing the hair of a woman, later identified as Urmila. At the time, Rathore had offered the same explanation, saying the clip was from a scene in the same film and not real-life footage.

He added that Urmila, a woman from Saharanpur, was facing marital issues, and the video was being used against him as part of a conspiracy. But at the time, Urmila claimed the video was not a movie scene. She said it was self-recorded and confirmed that Rathore was her husband. She had also said that he would publicly accept her as his wife soon.

Rathore Targets Congress Over Double Standards

In his recent remarks, Rathore also took a dig at Congress. He said that if the party was so interested in videos, they should look into clips involving their own leaders. He specifically named ND Tiwari, Harak Singh Rawat and Harish Rawat.

ND Tiwari’s Controversial Past

Rathore’s mention of ND Tiwari refers to two major controversies that shadowed the late leader’s career. In 2009, while serving as the Governor of Andhra Pradesh, a Telugu channel aired a clip allegedly showing him in a compromising position with three women at Raj Bhavan. The Andhra Pradesh High Court later ordered the channel to stop broadcasting the clip. Tiwari eventually resigned from his post.

Back in 2007, ND Tiwari was once again in the spotlight when Rohit Shekhar Tiwari filed a paternity suit, claiming to be his son. After a long legal battle, Tiwari finally accepted him as his biological son in 2014 when Rohit was 35 years old. At the age of 88, ND Tiwari also married Ujjwala Sharma, the mother of his son Rohit Shekhar, in Lucknow.

ND Tiwari passed away at the age of 92.
