Prateek Yadav, the son of Samajwadi Party (SP) patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, has hit headlines after announcing his intention to divorce his wife, Aparna Yadav, alleging that she has “ruined his family ties.”
Hours after announcing the decision, the SP patriarch’s younger son and stepbrother of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, shared another post on Instagram, accusing Aparna Yadav of ruining family ties and claimed that she is the “biggest liar and self-interested person” he has seen in his life.
In a post on Instagram, Prateek Yadav made a series of personal allegations against her. Targeting Aparna Yadav, he said, “She broke my relationship with my mother, broke my relationship with my father, broke my relationship with my brother.”
“Wants to be only famous. Biggest liar that I have seen in my life (I swear my child). Biggest self interested person I have ever seen,” he added in the post.

Earlier today, Prateek claimed that she had “ruined” his family relationships and accused her of seeking fame and influence. He also alleged that he was going through a difficult phase mentally and said his wife was indifferent to his condition, stating that she “only bothers about herself”.
Prateek further described her as a “bad soul” and said he felt unfortunate to have married her. The statements reflect Prateek Yadav’s personal claims, and there has been no response from his wife so far.
The issue has drawn widespread attention because Prateek is the son of Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, while Aparna is linked to the BJP. Though reports of differences between the two had surfaced earlier, this is the first time Prateek has openly spoken about divorce.

Meanwhile, there has been no official response from Aparna Yadav so far, and it is also unclear whether any legal divorce proceedings have been initiated.
Who Are Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav?
Prateek Yadav and Aparna Yadav were married in 2019. Aparna, who is associated with the BJP, has contested and won Assembly elections and is active on social media.
Prateek Yadav is the son of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s second wife, Sadhna Yadav. His stepbrother and former chief minister, Akhilesh Yadav, currently heads the Samajwadi Party, the main opposition in Uttar Pradesh.
Aparna Yadav had contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on an SP ticket from the Cantt seat in Lucknow but lost to Congress candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi. She later joined the BJP in March 2022 and openly campaigned for the party. She was appointed vice chairperson of the state’s women’s commission in September 2024.

Born in what is now Uttarakhand, Aparna Yadav grew up in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow. She completed her schooling locally before pursuing higher education abroad. She earned a master’s degree in International Relations and Politics from the University of Manchester, UK. She is also trained in classical and semi-classical music from the Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow.
