Reports indicate that the distribution of ministerial posts among NDA allies has been finalised based on a formula of one minister for every six MLAs

The process of forming Bihar’s new government is moving swiftly following the NDA’s decisive victory in the recent state Assembly elections. Nitish Kumar is set to take oath at Gandhi Maidan on Thursday, November 20, in a ceremony that will see the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and several other senior leaders from both the central and state governments.

Preparations for the oath-taking have already begun, with Gandhi Maidan closed to the public for four days. Senior BJP leaders, including General Secretary and Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde, are in Patna to oversee arrangements.

The cabinet formation process is also underway. Reports indicate that the distribution of ministerial posts among NDA allies has been finalised based on a formula of one minister for every six MLAs.

From the BJP quota, names such as Samrat Chaudhary, Ramkripal Yadav, Nitin Navin, Mangal Pandey, Hari Sahni, and Vijay Sinha are in contention.

For the JDU, Vijay Chaudhary, Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Shravan Kumar, Ashok Chaudhary, Leshi Singh, Madan Sahni, Jayant Raj, and Sunil Kumar are likely to return as ministers.

Allied parties are also expected to be represented. LJP(R) may nominate Raju Tiwari, Sanjay Paswan, and Dehri MLA Rajiv Ranjan Singh, while HAM’s representation could include Santosh Suman, son of Jitan Ram Manjhi, and RLM may nominate Snehlata Kushwaha, wife of Upendra Kushwaha.

A high-level meeting over the weekend, attended by BJP leaders including Dharmendra Pradhan, Amit Shah, and JP Nadda, is said to have focused on ministerial allocations for NDA allies. Both HAM and RLM are reportedly expected to receive one ministerial post each.

The oath ceremony is anticipated to be a high-profile event, with several state chief ministers and deputy chief ministers, along with central ministers such as Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, expected to attend.

Political observers note that the cabinet distribution reflects parity between the BJP and JDU, which contested 101 seats each, while smaller allies such as LJP(R), HAM, and RLM are set to receive representation proportional to their strength.

Meanwhile, the BJP legislative party is scheduled to meet on Tuesday, November 18, at 10 am to elect its leader, a key step in formalising the NDA government in Bihar. Discussions on ministerial allocation and other government formation matters are expected to continue through the week.
