Independent MP from Bihar’s Purnea, Pappu Yadav, has received a notice from the Income Tax Department. He shared the update on social media on Saturday, stating the notice treated his distribution of relief funds to flood-affected people as a “crime.”
The images of the notice shared by the MP show he was asked to appear before the concerned authorities on October 24. The notice, dated October 16, directed the parliamentarian to furnish a written explanation and documents supporting the source of funds distributed to flood-affected families.
Despite the notice, the MP asserted that if helping the needy is considered a crime, he is prepared to “always commit this crime.”

In a post on X, he wrote, “I have received an income tax notice, accusing me of committing a crime for distributing money to help flood victims. If that is considered a crime, then I will proudly continue to commit this crime of helping every deprived and suffering person!”
Issuing a clarification over funds distribution, he said he gave money to people in Vaishali district whose homes were washed away after floods in Ganga. He also targeted the local MP of being a mere “spectator”.
“In Maniyari village, under Nayagaon East Panchayat of Vaishali district, the homes of flood victims were completely washed away by the Ganga. If I hadn’t helped them, should I have remained a silent spectator like the Minister of State for Home, the local MP, and those self-proclaimed candidates for Chief Minister?,” he questioned.
Meanwhile, Yadav on Thursday extended an invitation to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to join the Mahagathbandhan, alleging that the BJP is “stabbing him from behind.” Yadav said that despite political differences, the alliance continues to hold Nitish Kumar in high regard and values his leadership in the state.
Speaking to ANI, Yadav said, “I invite him because the BJP is stabbing him from behind. BJP is finishing him. Our leaders have always respected him. He is being stabbed from behind, but we have a lot of respect for him.”
However, Yadav also expressed dissatisfaction over the emphasis placed on Tejashwi Yadav’s image in the Mahagathbandhan’s campaign materials. Referring to a poster featuring the RJD leader, he said, “Voting will be done on Rahul Gandhi’s picture only and not on anyone else’s picture… Pictures of all three leaders of the alliance should have been there. This is not right, and it will not send the right message… We can win Bihar only on the face of Rahul Gandhi. We have no other way to win here…”
Polling for the Bihar Assembly elections will take place on November 6 and 11, while the counting of votes will be held on November 14.
