As NYPD is still hunting the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, several conspiracy theories are doing the rounds on social media about the delay and now a guest on CNN said the most bizarre thing: Brian Thompson may have hired someone to kill him. CNN guest and former Maryland state police commander Neil Franklin added that he was not saying that this was the care certainly but he was aware of such cases.
“There have been times when people have orchestrated their own demise for certain reasons. We know that there are some,” Franklin said. On being asked whether it was for insurance purposes, Franklin said there could be many other reasons: maybe they feared some type of investigation, maybe they wanted to leave their family in a good light,” Franklin said.
To defend his theory, Franklin said the killer had too much information about Brian Thompson– about the exact timing when he would arrive at the hotel. “It was a very small window. It was not like he was roaming around going from one door to the next trying to figure out where his target was going to be. He knew and he was there. Who would have that specific type of information?” Franklin said.
Brian Thompson was killed Wednesday morning by a masked killer who left a trail of clues and a message of what looked like a vendetta (Deny, defend, depose) but the NYPD is yet to catch the killer and believed that he left NYC soon after the murder. The detectives even followed leads to Atlanta.
The brazen killing unleashed a spate of celebrations where several prominent figures too lent their support to justify the killing of Thompson saying that his company killed many by denying their insurance payouts.
Brian Thompson was facing a lawsuit accusing him and other executives if insider trading related to an ongoing Justice Department investigation.
