The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to begin its full-fledged groundwork in Tamil Nadu as it prepares for the upcoming elections. The party’s state president, Nainar Nagendran, will lead an extensive statewide yatra beginning October 12, aimed at energising the cadre, connecting with voters, and strengthening the BJP’s organisational network across the state.

The yatra, which is expected to cover every district of Tamil Nadu within a month, will serve as the BJP’s biggest outreach exercise in recent months. According to party sources, Nainar is expected to travel through at least one district each day, holding meetings, public interactions, and rallies to mobilise local workers and highlight the party’s vision for Tamil Nadu.

A senior central BJP leader will flag off the yatra, underscoring the national leadership’s focus on expanding the party’s footprint in the southern state. The presence of top leaders at the launch is also seen as a signal of strong backing for the state unit under Nagendran’s leadership. As of now, it is likely that finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who herself hails from the state, may flag off the yatra on Sunday. However, it is also being speculated that senior party leader and agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan may also be asked to go to Tamil Nadu for this.

Throughout the journey, senior state and central leaders are expected to join Nagendran at various stages to address public meetings and interact with party workers. The yatra will highlight key governance themes—from development and employment to infrastructure and welfare—while also taking on the ruling DMK on issues of governance and corruption.

Party insiders said the yatra is not just a political event but part of a larger organisational exercise to assess ground realities, strengthen booth-level structures, and prepare for seat-sharing decisions within the NDA in the state. The initiative comes soon after the BJP’s high-level strategy meetings on Tamil Nadu, where discussions focused on countering the DMK, building new alliances, and addressing the growing presence of Vijay’s TVK.

For the BJP, which is seeking to build a stronger presence in the southern states, the Tamil Nadu yatra marks an important step toward deepening its connection with voters and expanding its outreach beyond traditional strongholds. The campaign will also test the state leadership’s ability to mobilise workers and sustain political momentum ahead of the elections.

The month-long yatra will conclude with a major rally, where senior BJP leaders are expected to outline the party’s roadmap for the state and signal its readiness for the electoral battle ahead.
