The much-awaited selection of the Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president has been completed and only a formal announcement remains, according to signals emerging from the BJP-RSS meeting on Monday.

The name of the new BJP President for UP could be announced in the coming days, said sources, adding it could be as soon as by the end of the week. Senior functionaries say that the new National President of the BJP could also be announced in the coming few days.

Senior RSS leaders held a series of closed-door meetings with the government and BJP leaders all through Monday.

RSS national coordinator Arun Kumar and BJP national organisation general secretary BL Santosh arrived in Lucknow on Monday and held a meeting with Kshetra Pracharaks Anil Singh and Mahendra Kumar. They also met Kshetra Karwah of Kashi region, among other functionaries, and took feedback on the government’s performance and party activities.

Kumar and Santosh then held a high-profile meeting with CM Yogi, Deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brijesh Pathak at the CM’s residence. Also present were state general secretary organisation Dharampal and state BJP president Bhupendra Choudhary.

The name of the new BJP president for Uttar Pradesh was discussed, and the preferences of the national leadership were also conveyed to those present.

Sources say that the new President has been finalised from a shortlist comprising candidates from the Brahmin, OBC, and Dalit leadership.

Kumar and Santosh also conveyed their views on the government’s and party’s performance at the meeting. They expressed their concern that ministers and elected representatives like MLAs and MPs were not taking interest in the ongoing SIR exercise.

The two top leaders stressed upon starting an exercise to weed out infiltrators and discussed the government’s plan to go about it. They also conveyed their views on the performance of various ministries and departments as per feedback from their cadres.

The BJP organisation and RSS had gathered inputs about the government’s performance from the ground and discussed it in detail at the meeting, especially as the state now gears up for polls in early 2027.

The completion of the Ram Temple at Ayodhya, a long-held promise of the BJP and RSS, was also part of the deliberations.
