There seems to be no stopping Vicky Kaushal‘s historical epic Chhaava at the box office. Ahead of its much-anticipated Valentine’s Day release, the film has already surpassed the Rs 10 crore mark in advance bookings.
According to early estimates from Sacnilk.com, Chhaava has earned approximately Rs 8.88 crore from advance ticket sales alone. The film has sold over 3.18 lakh tickets for more than 11,133 shows across the country.
A major chunk of the earnings—Rs 8.48 crore—has come from the Hindi 2D format, highlighting the preference for this version among moviegoers. Additionally, the IMAX 2D version has contributed Rs 29.41 lakh, while the ICE and 4DX versions together have generated over Rs 10 lakh.
While the current figures stand at Rs 8.88 crore, the inclusion of blocked seats is expected to push the total to Rs 10.82 crore by the time the film releases on the big screen.
The state of Maharashtra has played a significant role in these numbers, contributing an estimated Rs 5.67 crore to the advance bookings.
Interestingly, no other state has managed to cross the Rs 1 crore mark. This trend aligns with trade experts’ previous concerns that the film’s historical subject matter may resonate more strongly with Maharashtra audiences than with the rest of the country.
Despite its strong start, Chhaava faces tough competition from Marvel’s superhero spectacle Captain America: Brave New World, which also releases on February 14. While Chhaava currently leads in pre-release sales, it remains to be seen whether it can sustain its momentum and emerge victorious at the box office.
“Chhaava” will see Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Rashmika Mandanna playing his wife, Maharani Yesubai. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film is a cinematic adaptation of the Marathi novel “Chhava” by Shivaji Sawant.
