Car Damaged, Several Detained After Congress-BJP Clash in Kamareddy
Tension erupted in Kamareddy, Telangana, after workers of the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party clashed over a land dispute. The confrontation followed a verbal exchange between state government adviser Mohammed Ali Shabbir and BJP MLA K Venkata Ramana Reddy.
Slogans and violence
The chaos took place near the BJP MLA’s camp office. Former sarpanch and Congress leader Giri Reddy Mahender Reddy and his supporters gathered there and raised slogans of “MLA down, down”. Ali Shabbir had alleged that the BJP MLA encroached upon the land in question.
Ramana Reddy challenged him to an open debate. During the unrest, Mahender Reddy’s car was damaged and overturned. Police were seen trying to control the crowd.

BJP Telangana President N Ramchander Rao condemned the incident, calling it political violence. He said he would visit the site but later told ANI that he had been placed under house arrest as a preventive measure.
Telangana BJP chief N Ramchander Rao posted on X, “The ghastly attack by Congress workers at the Kamareddy BJP MLA K Venkat Ramana Reddy garu’s Camp Office is deeply condemnable and shocking…”
BJP MLA Umesh Sharma Kau says, “There was no fistfight or manhandling. This has been well-planned by an officer who is about to retire. A family donated land for a school free of cost. The head of the family passed away. For 7-8 months, members of the family have been demanding that the school be renamed after him. I wrote several letters for the same. His family waited for 2 hours yesterday but they were misbehaved with…I was informed that the officer is present today, so I thought I should come to him and ask about the progress…Today too, he misbehaved with the family in front of me…A few people barged in and threw a telephone at me…He wasn’t injured then. He had locked me up in a room and I was later rescued by people.”
Kamareddy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Chandra said some people were detained and arrests are under way.
