An FIR has been filed by the Karnataka Congress against the Karnataka BJP social media team for linking Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits to the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Karnataka unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had taken a personal swipe at Gandhi, alleging that each time he travelled overseas, his trips coincided with “something sinister and a distressing event back home”.

The BJP’s comment came in the aftermath of the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which left 26 people dead and 12 injured. The horrific attack took place on April 22 at the scenic Baisaran meadow, a tourist spot often referred to as ‘mini Switzerland’.
Congress Legal and Human Rights Cell chairman C M Dhananjaya filed the FIR, stating that while at the party office at 3:42 pm, he received a WhatsApp forward of a tweet by the BJP Karnataka unit. The tweet alleged that whenever Rahul Gandhi travels abroad, something “sinister unfolds back home” — referring to the Pahalgam killings.
According to Dhananjaya, such messages disturb peace and harmony, and are aimed at creating unrest.
He demanded action against those running the BJP social media handle, as well as others circulating the post, accusing them of attempting to defame Gandhi and “harm his honour”.
After the attack, Rahul Gandhi said he was briefed by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. “Spoke with HM Amit Shah, J&K CM Omar Abdullah, and J&K PCC President Tariq Karra about the horrific Pahalgam terror attack. Received an update on the situation. The families of victims deserve justice and our fullest support,” he wrote on X.

The Congress has hit back at the BJP, calling the remarks “cheap and irresponsible” and accusing the party of politicising a national tragedy.
