Husain Dalwai’s remarks linking the Red Fort blast to Kashmir and urging a probe into the RSS prompted a sharp BJP response, which criticised his comments as “shameful.”

Congress leader’s remark sparked a row

Congress leader Husain Dalwai has sparked a controversy after he linked the recent car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi to the unrest in Kashmir and demanded that the role of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) be investigated.

“Injustice in the Valley will have repercussions,” Dalwai said, suggesting that unresolved tensions in Kashmir frequently express themselves in violent incidents.

“I think it was only terrorists who were involved in the incident in Delhi. What Mufti ji has said is right. This must have happened due to the injustice meted out in Kashmir. It was always wrong for the government to have created an atmosphere against a particular community. The govt should hold a dialogue. Does RSS believe in Gandhi Ji’s non-violence? All those organisations which believe in violence should be probed,” he added.

Responding to Dalwai’s comments, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) condemned his remarks and called them “shameful.”

Sharing the video clip on social media, BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya accused the Congress leader of defending the attackers.

He wrote, “MMC (Muslim League Mao Congress) justifies Red Fort blast. Quotes former Home Minister P Chidambaram in defence. Shame.”

Delhi Red Fort Car Blast

A car exploded near Gate 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station in Old Delhi on November 10, leaving ten dead. The slow-moving vehicle halted at a red traffic signal, then detonated, damaging nearby vehicles and sending shock-waves through the capital.

In the latest development in the case, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday said that it arrested a Kashmiri man accused of helping the suicide bomber behind the Red Fort attack, which left 10 people dead and 32 others injured.

The agency said it had taken Amir Rashid Ali into custody in Delhi soon after formally taking over the case from the Delhi Police. Amir’s name was listed as the owner of the car that was used in the explosion.

Investigators have found that Amir, who is from Samboora in Pampore, Jammu and Kashmir, worked with the suspected suicide bomber, Umar Un Nabi, to plan the attack. The NIA believes Amir travelled to Delhi to assist in buying the vehicle, which was later fitted with explosives and used as a vehicle-borne IED.

Further questioning and forensic analysis are underway as the agency continues to piece together the wider network behind the blast.
