'Contrary to ... ': US to sell new air-to-air missiles to Pakistan? Embassy issues clarification
Shehbaz Sharif, Donald Trump and Asim Munir

Amid buzz over alleged US missile sales to Pakistan, the American Embassy in India on Friday stepped in to set the record straight, calling the reports “false” and clarifying that no new missiles or upgrades are being supplied to Islamabad.“The sustainment does not include an upgrade to any of Pakistan’s current capabilities,” the statement said, adding that reports got misinterpreted the Department of War’s (DoW) recent notification.According to the embassy, “On September 30, 2025, the Department of War released a list of standard contract announcements, which referred to an amendment to an existing Foreign Military Sales contract for sustainment and spares for several countries, including Pakistan. The Administration would like to emphasise that contrary to false media reports, no part of this referenced contract modification is for deliveries of new Advanced-Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Pakistan.”Earlier, reports had suggested that Pakistan was set to receive AIM-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) from the US. These claims were based on a press release issued by the Department of War (DoW), formerly known as the Department of Defence, which listed Pakistan among the countries under an arms contract. This led to speculation that the deal could involve upgrades to Pakistan’s military systems with US assistance. The AMRAAM missiles are used on F-16 fighter jets operated by the Pakistan Air Force (PAF). According to Pakistani media outlet TheDawn, these missiles were used during aerial engagements following India’s Balakot air strikes in 2019.In February 2019, India carried out an intelligence-led operation targeting the biggest training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed in Balakot, killing a large number of terrorists, trainers, and commanders preparing for suicide missions.
