Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government, saying that the money sent by the Centre to the state government is not utilised for the welfare of women and the poor; instead, it is spent on the TMC cadre.

While addressing a gathering in Kolkata, the Prime Minister said that the BJP-led Centre has extended every possible help for the development of West Bengal, but the development in the state is facing massive challenges from the state government, as the funds released for the welfare schemes are being looted by the TMC and spent on the party cadre.

“The BJP believes that until West Bengal develops, the ‘yatra’ of ‘Viksit Bharat’ will not be successful…In the past 11 years, the central government has extended every possible help for the development of West Bengal…The money that the central government sends for the development of the state is being looted and is spent on the TMC cadre…” he said.

He further said that the BJP believes in ‘Bangalar Uday, Tobei Viksit Bharater Jai‘ (The rise of Bengal leads to the victory of a developed India).”

PM Modi also emphasised that the BJP government is important in West Bengal for the poor to get the benefits of the government scheme.

“…It is necessary to elect the BJP in West Bengal to ensure that the benefits of central government schemes reach the people. It is certain that TMC will be removed from power and BJP will be elected,” he added.

Further launching an attack on the TMC government over the law and order situation and increasing crimes against women in the state, PM Modi said that till the TMC is in power in the state, there will be no development.

“…The atrocities against women in the state have increased. Crime and corruption have become the identity of the TMC government. Till the TMC is in power in the state, there will be no development…The real change will only come when the TMC is removed from power…Criminals and corrupt should be in jail, not in power…” he said.

He also urged the people to vote for the BJP once, saying, “Your one vote will bring a huge change in West Bengal.” He said that the BJP has a roadmap for the state, but the TMC is anti-development.

“TMC is the enemy of Bengal’s development; the party’s only objective is to stop the BJP’s roadmap for growth,” he said,

He also asserted that the BJP strengthened Bengali by granting it classical language status.

PM Modi also hit out at the TMC over the issue of illegal immigrants residing in the state and said that parties like TMC and Congress have succumbed to the politics of appeasement. He said that they are encouraging infiltration only for the greed of power.

“Vote for us and the infiltrators will run away… We will not allow those infiltrators who are taking away the jobs of our youth and torturing women to stay in India…” he asserted.

The Prime Minister further hailed the success of Operation Sindoor– India’s military strikes against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack– saying that the Indian forces destroyed terror camps successfully, and the key reason for this was ‘Make In India’.

“The enlightened people of Bengal know that dependence on others means an injury to self-respect. We have to get the country out of this situation. Therefore, today the country has decided to achieve new heights by adopting the basic mantra of ‘Atmanirbharta’…We have seen the latest proof of this during Operation Sindoor. Our army has turned the bases of terrorists and terror masters into ruins. Our forces have taught a lesson to the terrorists in Pakistan…The biggest power behind this success is the Made in India weapons,” he said.

Earlier today, the Prime Minister inaugurated Rs 5,200-crore worth infrastructure projects, including three crucial metro stretches— Sealdah to Esplanade (Green Line, 2.6 km), Noapara to Jai Hind Bimanbandar (Yellow Line, 6.77 km), and Hemanta Mukhopadhyay to Beleghata (Orange Line, 4.39 km) — marking a landmark infrastructure push for the city.

This marks the first time in 41 years that the city’s metro services will directly connect the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport with the rest of the city.

He also laid the foundation of the 7.2-km elevated Kona Expressway worth over Rs 1,200 crore, which is expected to enhance connectivity between Howrah and Kolkata.
