Couple in black: Prince Harry and Meghan honored as 'Humanitarians of the Year' – What were they awarded for?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle yet again made the headlines, but this time not for the controversy but for their humanitarian work. The couple made a rare joint appearance on the red carpet, wearing semi-formal dress, opting for black suits, on Thursday night as they received ‘Humanitarians of the Year’ at the Project Healthy Minds gala. At the stage, while giving her acceptance speech, Meghan Markle shares about their children growing up in a digital age, Daily Mail reported. Meghan said, “Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old. Luckily still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming.” “Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits, while safeguarding against its dangers.” “That hopeful intention of separation is rapidly becoming impossible.” Meghan was joined on stage by Harry, who also shared words of wisdom about the dangers of technological advancements. He said, “This is a pivotal moment in our collective mission to protect children and support families in a digital age.”

What were they awarded for?

The Project Health Minds gala, held in upmarket Tribeca, recognised the pair as Humanitarians of the Year. Prince Harry is described on the non-profit’s website as “a humanitarian, mental health advocate, environmentalist, and military combat veteran”. The site also lists his autobiography, Spare – which was the fastest selling non-fiction book of all time – as one of his significant achievements. The Duke’s gossipy memoir contained accusations about the Royal household that deepened a rift between him and his family. He stepped back from Royal life in 2020 and moved to California with the Duchess of Sussex, Telegraph reported. The pair now run a charitable foundation and have secured commercial deals, including with Netflix and Spotify.People Magazine reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are being recognized for their efforts in promoting mental wellness and advocating for safer online spaces for families and young people. The Duchess of Sussex, who has her own lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard, is described on the Project Health Minds website as a “mother, wife, entrepreneur, and philanthropist” whose “lifelong advocacy for women and girls remains a constant thread she weaves through both humanitarian and business ventures”.
