Kavita stated that KCR’s soft approach towards the BJP has sparked speculation about a potential alliance.

Telangana politics has been thrown into turmoil after BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavita penned a strongly-worded letter to her father and party leader K. Chandrashekhar Rao, criticising his soft stance towards the BJP, which she claims has harassed her.

In a six-page letter dated May 2, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavita expressed deep frustration with the party’s direction and leadership strategy. Kavita accused KCR of barely criticising the BJP during the party’s 25th Foundation Day meeting in Warangal, speaking for just two minutes about their primary rival.

Kavita stated that KCR’s soft approach towards the BJP has sparked speculation about a potential alliance. She also warned that public trust in the Congress is dwindling, and people are beginning to see the BJP as an alternative — something the BRS must urgently counter. Kavita further criticised KCR’s inaccessibility, noting that even senior leaders and grassroots representatives like ZPTC and Zilla Parishad chairpersons are unable to meet him, which has left the party cadre demoralised and disconnected.

Kavita’s letter also criticised the execution of the Warangal meeting, specifically KCR’s speech, which she said omitted key issues like the Wakf Bill, 42 per cent BC reservations, and SC categorisation.

She questioned the reliance on old in-charges who allegedly failed to capture the spirit of the Telangana movement and accused them of lobbying for tickets in the upcoming local body elections.

Kavita questioned why long-standing loyalists, who have been part of BRS since 2001, were denied a voice on such a significant occasion. Yet, amid her disappointment, Kavita acknowledged a few positives — including the energy of the public meeting, the mention of Operation Kagar, and the calculated decision to avoid naming Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.

The Congress has capitalised on Kavita’s letter, using it to highlight internal divisions within the BRS and its supposed ties to the BJP. Although KCR hasn’t officially responded, the letter has fueled speculation about Kavita’s plans, including potential splits, starting a new party, or pushing for internal reforms.

The release of the letter has triggered a fresh political controversy, with opposition leaders using it to reinforce their long-standing criticism of BRS. Congress MLA Adi Srinivas responded by saying that Kavita’s letter proves the Congress’s allegation that BRS and BJP are working in tandem. He said the letter is clear evidence of internal divisions within the ruling party.

Kavita’s visible distance from recent party affairs has only added fuel to speculation. There have been persistent reports of tension between her and other senior BRS leaders, including working president K.T. Rama Rao and finance minister Harish Rao.

However, ahead of the Warangal event, KTR had denied any internal discord. In an interview with News18, he said, “There have been rumours of rifts for the last 25 years. There is no truth to them. We are all united.”

As the letter continues to circulate and dominate political discussion in Telangana, all eyes are now on Kavita. Whether this marks the beginning of a political breakaway or a call for introspection within BRS remains to be seen. Either way, her words have forced the party — and the state — to take notice.

The letter came at a time when her brother and party working president KT Rama Rao was taking over the mantle of the BRS, while her father was content with taking a backseat.
