A social media post showing that Elon Musk wore a T-shirt with ‘I love Canada’ written on it went viral on X with the claim that Elon Musk supported Donald Trump’s idea of making Canada the 51st state of the US. Many social media users also suggested that Elon Musk should “buy” Canada since he loves the country. But the claim is false and the viral post is from 2023.
Born in South Africa, Elon Musk actually got Canadian citizenship through his mother Maye Musk before he became a naturalized US citizen in 2002. But Elon Musk has not reacted to the Canada joke that now spilled from Mar-a-Lago dinner to the world.
Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau met Donald Trump at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago after Trump threatened to impose 25 per cent tax on imports from Canada and Mexico if they don’t stop sending drugs and illegal immigrants to the US.
Trudeau at the dinner told Trump that he cannot levy the tariff because it would kill the Canadian economy completely. Trump replied – asking, so your country can’t survive unless it’s ripping off the US to the tune of $100 billion? Trump then suggested to Trudeau that Canada become the 51st state, which caused the prime minister and others to laugh nervously, Fox News reported.
It was meant to be a joke and Trudeau and other Canadian officials laughed nervously. But it sent across the strong stand that Trump is going to take as he assumes the office.
Canada to buy more drones, helicopters to not become 51st state of US
Canada public safety minister Dominic LeBlanc, who was with Trudeau at Mar-a-Lago, said the government has prepared a list of additional measures that would be important to improve border security quickly. “A lot of it is equipment they already have that we would simply supplement. We would add additional helicopters, drones,” he said.
