In a shocking incident, a 10-year-old boy was shot while he was attempting a late-night door-knocking prank on a neighbour in southeast Houston, police told ABC News on Sunday. The incident occurred at around 10.55 on Membrough Street. According to Houston police department spokesperson Shay Awosiyan, the child and a group of friends had been knocking on doors and running away when someone opened fire.“One person was detained at the scene and is being questioned, but no charges have been filed at this time,” Awosiyan told ABC News. The boy was treated at the scene by Houston fire department personnel before being rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon. The case has sparked fresh concern over a growing online trend linked to the incident. Police noted that the prank is similar to the so-called “Door Kicking Challenge” circulating on social media platforms like TikTok. The challenge encourages kids to bang or kick on doors, film the reactions, and post the videos — a modern twist on the old “ding-dong ditch” prank. This is not the first time the prank has turned violent in Texas. In July, police in Frisco arrested a 58-year-old man on charges of aggravated assault after he allegedly fired several rounds at a vehicle fleeing his home following a similar door-banging incident.Houston police said the investigation remains ongoing.
