TL;DR

  • The Dubai Mallathon, launched by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, encourages fitness in malls.
  • Seven major malls across Dubai open early mornings for indoor walking and running paths throughout August.
  • It supports Dubai’s Social Agenda 33 by making healthy living easier, safer, and more accessible.

His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, officially launched the Dubai Mallathon on July 24. This new initiative invites residents to use Dubai’s major shopping malls as indoor fitness tracks. The goal is simple: keep the community active during the hot summer months by walking or running inside air-conditioned malls. Residents can walk or run in cool, air-conditioned spaces every morning from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The Dubai Mallathon supports the city’s Social Agenda 33, which focuses on improving health and wellbeing for all residents. By using familiar malls, the initiative makes it easier to stay active while avoiding the summer heat. This encourages people of all ages and fitness levels to adopt healthy routines that fit into their daily lives.Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan, emphasized the initiative’s purpose, stating:“With the Dubai Mallathon, we’re turning familiar spaces into places that inspire movement, connection, and better habits. We want everyone in Dubai to feel they can stay active and energized in welcoming spaces built with their needs in mind. This reflects our broader commitment to placing people and families at the heart of our development plans.”

What Is Dubai Mallathon?

Dubai Mallathon is a month-long fitness initiative held every August. It transforms seven major malls across the city into indoor walking and running tracks, open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. The goal is to provide residents with a safe, comfortable space to stay active away from the summer heat. Participation is free for all Dubai residents, with registration available online. The initiative supports Dubai’s Social Agenda 33, which aims to promote health, wellbeing, and a better quality of life for the community.“As a new community initiative launched from Dubai’s malls, it’s a simple idea with a powerful goal: bringing healthy, active living into familiar everyday spaces,” said the Crown Prince in a social media post announcing the launch.

Malls Are Your Next Fitness Track

This August, seven of Dubai’s most popular malls will transform into indoor fitness tracks, giving residents a cool and comfortable place to walk or run during the hot summer months. The malls participating in the Dubai Mallathon include Dubai Mall, Mall of the Emirates, Dubai Hills Mall, Springs Souk, City Centre Deira, City Centre Mirdif, and Dubai Marina Mall. From 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. daily, these malls will open their doors early, offering clearly marked routes designed for safe and easy exercise. Beyond fitness, many mall retailers and restaurants are joining the effort by offering special deals that encourage healthier food choices, helping residents embrace a balanced lifestyle.

This removes weather as a barrier and encourages more people to keep active. The initiative fits within Dubai’s wider plans to improve quality of life, including the Year of Community and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 33. Using malls for fitness also links exercise with everyday activities, making it a natural part of daily life.
