Dubai has taken a significant step on the global stage by joining the Global Resilient Cities Network, a move that reflects the emirate’s determination to prepare for future challenges and strengthen its leadership in sustainable urban development. The membership highlights Dubai’s ongoing work to improve crisis response, build smarter systems, and support long term stability for its residents.Dubai has been officially welcomed into the Global Resilient Cities Network, a coalition of leading cities focused on improving resilience and advancing sustainable growth. The membership reinforces the emirate’s reputation as a city that invests in forward thinking policies and has the capability to effectively anticipate risks, withstand disruptions, and recover quickly from crises.According to the announcement, this recognition positions Dubai as an international reference point for modern crisis management and reinforces its role as a model for adopting urban systems that can adapt to rapid global changes.H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Supreme Committee of Emergency, Crisis, and Disaster Management in Dubai, described the membership as an important strategic moment for the city. He highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen crisis response, maintain the continuity of development, protect quality of life, and enhance long term planning. He added that the step further supports Dubai’s standing as one of the safest, most sustainable, and most innovative cities in the world.

Collaboration and innovation

Ahmad Atiq Bourqibah, Executive Manager of the Dubai Resilience Centre, described the move as a defining point in Dubai’s journey toward becoming one of the most future ready cities. He noted that the partnership will open opportunities to collaborate with international experts and leading cities, allowing Dubai to apply global best practices in urban resilience. This includes improving service sustainability and strengthening well being for residents in all conditions.Bourqibah explained that the network will also create avenues for joint innovation projects that use smart technologies to address risk and resilience challenges. These collaborations will help local institutions design forward looking strategies and policies, preparing the city to handle emerging global shifts with confidence and efficiency. He added that Dubai is not only strengthening its preparedness for crises but also focusing on transforming challenges into opportunities. The long term goal is to build an integrated and resilient system that guarantees continued growth even during periods of rapid change.Dubai is now the first city in the GCC region to join the Resilient Cities Network. As part of this global platform, the emirate intends to play an active role by contributing its expertise, sharing proven practices, and encouraging more cities to join in strengthening urban resilience worldwide.Through this cooperation, Dubai aims to support a broader international movement focused on future-ready planning, innovation, and sustainable urban solutions.
