In a significant move to bolster bilateral economic ties, the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has entered into a strategic partnership with the German–Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK). This collaboration aims to attract German businesses to Dubai’s dynamic economic zones, including Dubai Airport Freezone, Dubai Silicon Oasis, and Dubai CommerCity, focusing on future industries such as Industry 4.0, sustainability, smart manufacturing, and digital trade.

Dubai business setup made simple for German entrepreneurs

Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) has partnered with the German–Emirati Joint Council (AHK) to make it easier for German professionals, entrepreneurs, and small-to-medium businesses to set up, grow, and thrive in Dubai. The deal is designed not just for big corporations, but for middle-class investors and startups who want access to world-class facilities, fast-track company registration, and support in sectors like e-commerce, digital trade, logistics, and smart manufacturing. The partnership builds upon the robust economic relationship between the UAE and Germany, with non-oil trade reaching AED 50.68 billion ($13.8 billion) in 2024, marking a 5.4% increase from the previous year. Amna Lootah, Director General of Dubai Airport Freezone and Dubai CommerCity, emphasized that this agreement lays the foundation for a new phase of growth and expansion for German companies, aligning with Dubai’s Economic Agenda D33, which aims to double the size of the economy and enhance its competitiveness globally. The agreement introduces several initiatives to streamline German business operations in Dubai:

  • German Desk: A dedicated support system to assist with company setup, onboarding, and ongoing operations.
  • Fast Lane: A facilitation system for German exporters and cargo through Dubai Airport Freezone, offering trade, logistics, and customs support.
  • Innovation Platform: A joint industrial innovation hub focusing on Industry 4.0, sustainability, and smart manufacturing, including a new innovation center at Dubai Silicon Oasis for pilot projects.
  • Incentive Packages: Tailored packages for German e-commerce and logistics firms through Dubai CommerCity.
  • Startup Support: Assistance for German startups entering the UAE market via Oraseya Capital and Wadi.AI, with reciprocal access for UAE startups to the German innovation network.

Dubai economic zone incentives and startup support

Over 200 German companies, including industry giants like Airbus, DHL, Henkel, Porsche, Wacker, Beckhoff, and Audi VW, already operate within DIEZ’s economic zones. Dr. Mohammed Al Zarooni, Executive Chairman of DIEZ, noted that the new framework will further integrate German innovation with Dubai’s knowledge-based economy, accelerating growth in high-value industries and advanced technologies. German investors and professionals can also enjoy:

  • Tailored Incentives: Discounts on office space, utilities, and e-commerce logistics through Dubai CommerCity.
  • Innovation Support: Access to Dubai Silicon Oasis innovation center for pilot projects, testing new products, and collaboration with tech experts.
  • Startup Network Access: Assistance via Oraseya Capital and Wadi.AI, with mentorship, workshops, and access to both UAE and German innovation ecosystems.

This means middle-class investors aren’t just entering a foreign market they’re entering a supportive ecosystem designed to help them succeed quickly.

Why German SMEs should invest in Dubai for growth and innovation

  • Lower Risk: Structured support reduces bureaucratic hurdles and financial risks.
  • Growth Potential: Dubai’s strategic location and robust trade network provide access to Gulf, Middle East, and North Africa markets.
  • Learning & Collaboration: Entrepreneurs can collaborate with global companies like DHL, Porsche, Henkel, and other German firms already in Dubai, gaining insights and partnerships.

For middle-class investors or young professionals looking to start a business abroad, this partnership turns Dubai from a distant opportunity into a practical, accessible option. This strategic partnership underscores the UAE’s commitment to fostering international business relationships and enhancing its position as a global hub for innovation and trade. By leveraging Germany’s expertise in advanced industries and aligning with Dubai’s ambitious economic goals, both nations stand to benefit from increased investment, technological advancements, and expanded market access.
