As Durga Pujo ends, both the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Bengal have started gearing up for the state assembly elections.

While the BJP’s leaders have arrived in the state to chalk out a strategy, the TMC has planned a mega outreach programme through Bijoya Sammelani.

News18 had earlier reported how Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah is likely to spend 8-10 days in the state every month till the elections are over.

The West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections for all 294 seats is expected to be held in March-April 2026. In the last assembly election in 2021, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) won 213 seats. In 2021, the BJP gave the clarion call of ‘Do Sau Paar’, but managed to win 77 seats. However, due to defections and other changes since then, the current number is 65 MLAs.

The BJP’s plans

BJP’s Bhupendra Yadav, architect of the 2023 Madhya Pradesh elections, and former Tripura Chief Minister and Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb Biplab Dev are in Kolkata for meetings with the local leadership. A meeting has already begun.

This is their first visit after getting responsibility of Bengal for the election. Among the things to be discussed will be the strategy and outreach plan, BJP sources told News18.

A BJP leader told News18, “They will meet our leaders and they will give us direction. This meeting is important. We are always geared up for the election.”

BJP’s Sukanto Majumdar said, “They have come here because they have got responsibility of the elections. We have started our meetings.”

The TMC’s plans

On the other hand, the TMC’s outreach programme through Bijoya Sammelani will start from Sunday.

Sources told News18 that 50+ speakers will reach out to each block. Sources also tell News18 that this has been suggested by Abhishek Banerjee.

The speakers’ list, which has been approved, includes MPs, MLAs, ministers, students, youth, and other important leaders.

Ahead of the 2026 polls, this will be the TMC’s first mega outreach programme, party insiders told News18.

TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, on the other hand, is also expected to go to North Bengal next week for a couple of meetings.

TMC’s Kunal Ghosh said, “They can do meetings and everything, they are migratory birds. My question is imagine a person like Biplab Deb, who does not have any acceptance in his place, their party had to change him…these are the people coming here for the Bengal elections.”
