Epstein files row: FBI chief Kash Patel breaks silence amid resignation buzz; addresses 'conspiracy theories'

FBI Director Kash Patel on Saturday (local time) dismissed rumours about his possible resignation, calling the speculation false and saying, “It’s an honour to serve the US President.”His comments came amid reports linking his alleged frustration over the Justice Department’s decision to close its investigation into Jeffrey Epstein without releasing further information. In a social media post on X, Patel wrote “The conspiracy theories just aren’t true, never have been. It’s an honor to serve the President of the United States — and I’ll continue to do so for as long as he calls on me.”Rumours about Patel’s resignation started when several media reports began claiming that Patel is furious with Attorney General Pam Bondi’s handling of the Epstein files, according to Guardian. He is said to be frustrated that Bondi has not unsealed more records related to the case and has told associates he wants her removed from her position.Critics have also rejected the official finding that Epstein died by suicide in August 2019 while awaiting trial, promoting the conspiracy theory that he was murdered to protect powerful individuals.A joint FBI and Justice Department memo addressed these claims directly. “This systematic review revealed no incriminating ‘client list’,” the memo said.“There was also no credible evidence found that Epstein blackmailed prominent individuals as part of his actions. We did not uncover evidence that could predicate an investigation against uncharged third parties,” it added.Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche also rejected claims of a rift between the FBI and Justice Department leadership over the memo. “I worked closely with [Kash and Bongino] on the joint FBI and DOJ memo regarding the Epstein Files. All of us signed off on the contents of the memo and the conclusions stated in the memo,” Blanche in a statement said.President Donald Trump had also expressed frustration at repeated questions about Epstein.“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein?” he said. “This guy’s been talked about for years … Are people still talking about this guy, this creep? That is unbelievable.”The FBI and Justice Department memo says they reviewed over 300 gigabytes of data and physical evidence, which included many images of Epstein, images and videos of victims who were minors or appeared to be minors and more than ten thousand downloaded videos and images of illegal child sexual abuse material and other pornography.“Through this review, we found no basis to revisit the disclosure of those materials and will not permit the release of child pornography,” the memo said.Hours later, President Trump took to Truth Social to urge his MAGA supporters to stop criticising Bondi, saying she is doing an excellent job and should be allowed to focus on her work.
