AAP leader Gopal Rai’s statement drew severe criticism from the BJP, which termed it as a reflection of the AAP’s “real mindset” of being “anti-national” and “anarchist”

The BJP on Sunday launched a scathing attack against the AAP over its “capture the PM’s house” slogan, accusing the Arvind Kejriwal-led party of having a “naxali mindset” and “fantasies of a Sri Lanka or Bangladesh-style coup in Delhi”.

This comes after AAP leader Gopal Rai’s remarks over the Delhi Development Authority’s (DDA) action against illegal encroachment. During a protest at Jantar Mantar against the government action, he issued a fiery ultimatum to the Centre.

“If you bulldoze homes without rehabilitation, use all your police and political power, we’ll enter the PM’s house and take control!” he said.

The statement drew severe criticism from the BJP, which termed it as a reflection of the AAP’s “real mindset” of being “anti-national” and “anarchist”.

“The naxali mindset in Gopal Rai is once again on full display—this time with open fantasies of a Sri Lanka or Bangladesh-style coup in Delhi,” said BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya in a post on X.

“‘हम प्रधानमंत्री के घर में घुस कर कब्जा करेंगे’ — this is not protest, this is insurrection. What explains AAP’s dangerous obsession with illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas? Is this why they defend infiltrators and sabotage every attempt to clean up the voter rolls?” Malviya questioned. “AAP should remember: democracy has limits, and sedition is not free speech.”

On Rai’s statement, BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari told news agency ANI: “…His statement is also a significant threat to the law and order of Delhi, as it implies that if an elected person seeks to take over the office of the Prime Minister forcibly, it suggests that when one cannot win the support of the people, they resort to advocating against democracy.”

“Rahul Gandhi had made a similar statement when he said he wanted to fight the Indian state. This makes it clear that their pride remains unchanged, but their thinking is contrary to the country’s unity,” he added.

Bhandari said such remarks reveal the “anti-national thinking” of the AAP leadership, as Delhi’s common citizens stand firmly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP’s Rekha Gupta.

Another, BJP national spokesperson Nalin Kohli, recalled Kejriwal’s earlier protest at Rajpath. “Kejriwal himself had once declared, ‘I am an anarchist’. Today, Gopal Rai is merely echoing that same anarchist mindset,” he told news agency IANS.
