Kharge targeted PM Modi for his silence on Trump’s repeated claims that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during Operation Sindoor

Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday said the government must “find and eradicate” the remaining terrorists involved in the April 22 Pahalgam attack.
Speaking during the special discussion on ‘Operation Sindoor’ in the Upper House, Kharge slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on US President Donald Trump’s repeated claims that he helped broker a ceasefire between India and Pakistan during the operation.
Kharge questioned why the ceasefire announcement came from Washington and not New Delhi. “The ceasefire was not announced by our Prime Minister or Defence Minister, it came from Washington,” he said, referring to Trump’s statements.

He also expressed concern over Trump’s claim that five fighter jets were shot down during the military exchange in May, calling on PM Modi to provide a clear explanation.
“PM Modi, who went all the way to the US and held a rally for Trump, even said there, ‘Phir ek baar Trump sarkar.’ Now, he should openly condemn his dear friend, who recently claimed that five jets were downed during the Indo-Pak standoff,” Kharge said.
“If no Indian fighter jet has been downed, PM Modi should tell, country wants to know it,” he added.
Kharge further demanded that the government reveal the details of the ceasefire. “The government must spell out the conditions under which the ceasefire was agreed upon. Did the US play a role in it?” he asked.
He also questioned why the Prime Minister had not publicly rejected Trump’s statements about mediation between India and Pakistan. “India does not accept third-party intervention. Why PM Modi did not contradict Trump’s claims?” he said.
The Congress leader went on to criticise the Prime Minister’s silence when, according to him, BJP MPs and ministers make statements that disrespect the armed forces. “Why does the Prime Minister remain silent when BJP MPs, ministers insult our armed forces?” Kharge asked.
Responding to Kharge, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh clarified that there was no communication between Prime Minister Modi and Donald Trump regarding the ceasefire.
“We reached a cessation of hostilities at the request of the Pakistan DGMO. Since April 22, there has been no communication between PM Modi and President Trump,” Singh told the House.
