US President Donald Trump on Wednesday voiced disappointment with Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying “he’s let me down”.In his opening remarks at a joint press conference with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, Donald Trump said, “He’s let me down. He’s really let me down,”.Trump admitted that he had hoped to broker a breakthrough because of his “good relationship” with Putin but acknowledged that the Russian leader had failed to deliver.“The one that I thought would be easiest would be because of my relationship with (Russia’s) President Putin, but he’s let me down, he’s really let me down. It was going to be Russia and Ukraine, but we’ll see how that turns out”, he said. The sharp words came a month after Trump hosted Putin in Alaska, a meeting he had claimed would pave the way for direct talks between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. British PM Starmer also accused Putin of showing his “true face” after launching what he described as the “biggest attack since the invasion began” in recent days. “These are not the actions of someone who wants peace. We discussed today how we can strengthen our defences, support Ukraine further, and decisively increase the pressure on Putin to agree to a lasting peace,” the British PM said. Starmer also noted the “unprecedented violations of NATO airspace” by Russia in recent days, underscoring what he called Moscow’s unwillingness to pursue peace.
