Chail MLA Pooja Pal, who was recently expelled from Samajwadi Party, has written a letter to party supremo Akhilesh Yadav, alleging death threats and holding him and the party responsible if she gets murdered.

A three-time MLA, Pooja Pal was expelled from the SP on August 14, a day after she praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for delivering justice to women after the death of gangster-cum-politician Atiq Ahmed. She had reportedly voted for BJP candidates in the 2024 Rajya Sabha polls.

She expressed fear that she could be murdered in public, like her husband, former BSP MLA Raju Pal, who was shot dead in 2005 allegedly on orders from gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed.

In the letter, she claimed that she is facing threat to her life from “criminal-minded” SP functionaries after being expelled from the party.

“You have humiliated and left me in the lurch. This has emboldened the criminal-minded functionaries of SP. It is possible that I too may be murdered like my husband. I appeal to the government that if it happens, Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav should be held responsible,” the letter read.

Pal accused the SP of caste-based favouritism and failing to support her long-standing fight for justice. She said she had joined SP with the hope of backing in her battle against powerful criminals, but was ultimately sidelined, silenced and left disappointed.

Pooja claimed enduring years of suffering in the party but the final blow was her expulsion without allowing her to present her case. “It felt like another act of injustice,” she wrote.

She questioned why her praise for Yogi was condemned, while Akhilesh and his wife’s voting for BJP candidates was overlooked.

“A widow from an extremely backward caste is punished for thanking the person who ensured justice for her husband. But when you or your wife vote for BJP candidates in the Constitution Club elections, it is justified,” she further wrote.

Pal concluded the letter with a message of defiance and pride. “I have achieved my goal, my husband’s murderers have been punished. Even if I die now, I will die with pride,” she further wrote.
