Former Republican candidate Valentina Gomez disrupted a Muslim community event at the Texas State Capitol on Tuesday by storming the stage and grabbing the microphone making offensive comments.
The incident happened during a civic engagement event for Muslims. Videos shared on social media showed Gomez grabbing the microphone and delivering anti-Islam rant.
Later, the failed MAGA candidate shared the footage on X stating: “Islam has no place in Texas. Help me to Congress so we can end the Islamisation of America. I only fear God.”
The incident took place during Texas Muslim Capitol Day, a one-day event that includes a rally, prayer, training sessions, lunch, and meetings with local officials.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), alongside other civil rights groups, denounced Gomez’s behaviour, demanding accountability whilst stressing the significance of religious liberty protection.
This wasn’t the first time Gomez has sparked controversy. Back in December 2024, she released a campaign video showing a mock execution of a hooded immigrant, calling for public executions of undocumented immigrants involved in violent crimes.
“Public executions for any illegal that rapes or kills an American. They don’t deserve deportation, they deserve to be ended,” she says in the video.
Social media platforms restricted the video for breaching guidelines on violent content.
In February, she recorded herself burning LGBTQ+ literature, promising to prohibit such materials if elected, whilst also gaining attention for her antagonistic comments about transgender individuals.
Who is Valentina Gomez?
Born on May 8, 1999, in Medellín, Colombia, Gomez immigrated to the US with her family in 2009, settling in Jersey City, New Jersey. She first gained attention as a real estate investor, but it was her entrance into politics that made her a polarising figure, reported the Daily Mail.
In 2024, Gomez contested for the position of Missouri Secretary of State, attracting attention due to her contentious positions and provocative video content. In the Republican primary, she placed sixth amongst eight contenders, garnering a mere 7.4% of total votes.
Despite setbacks, Gomez has continued sharing her controversial views on social media, where she has faced multiple bans for breaking platform rules.
