'I wouldn't call her a skilled politician': Trump mocks Kamala Harris over governor decision; jokes about buying her new book

US President Donald Trump took jabs at former Vice President Kamala Harris on Thursday, mocking her decision to bow out of the 2026 California governor race and taking aim at her newly announced book about her 2024 presidential campaign.Speaking at a White House press conference following the reintroduction of the Presidential Fitness Test in schools, Trump didn’t hold back in mocking Harris while taking questions from reporters.“Well, she can’t speak. She can’t talk. She can’t do an interview. She was a terrible candidate,” Trump said, taking a sarcastic tone. “I wouldn’t call her a skilled politician. Would you?” the US president added.Trump’s comments came just hours after Harris revealed she would not run for governor in 2026 and would instead focus on other political and personal projects, including a new memoir, “107 Days”.Asked by reporters if he would read the book, Trump responded with a smirk: “Yeah, I think I’m going to buy it… NO. I know I’d find it interesting. Look, I find everything in politics interesting. I sort of enjoy politics.” The book, titled 107 Days, refers to the length of her short-lived presidential campaign after taking over the Democratic ticket when President Joe Biden dropped out in July 2024.In a video posted on X, Harris reflected on her campaign, saying: “Just over a year ago, I launched my campaign for President of the United States, 107 days traveling the country, fighting for our future — the shortest presidential campaign in modern history. Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days. With candor and reflection, I’ve written a behind-the-scenes account of that journey. I believe there’s value in sharing what I saw, what I learned, and what it will take to move forward.”Simon & Schuster, which is publishing the book on September 23, said Harris provides an honest account of her campaign. CEO Jonathan Karp noted that Harris “addresses everything we would want her to address,” though he did not give details about the book’s contents.Harris on Wednesday confirmed that she will not enter the 2026 California governor’s race, saying in a statement, “After deep reflection, I’ve decided that I will not run for Governor in this election. I love this state, its people, and its promise. It is my home.”Though no longer in elected office, Kamala Harris has stayed politically engaged, recently appearing at youth voter summits and advocacy events. She also returned to the spotlight with her first post-election interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” which aired Thursday night on CBS.
