Federal authorities are searching for Benjamin Hanil Song who is accused of playing a central role in what officials are calling an “ambush” at the ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Texas on July 4, Fox4 reported. The suspect is believed to have fired on law enforcement officers using two AR-15-style rifles from a concealed position in nearby woods. Investigators say he was part of a group of about 10 to 12 individuals who staged a coordinated assault on the ICE facility.Song faces six federal charges, including three counts of attempted murder of a federal officer and three counts of discharging a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence. Investigators say he fired about 20 to 30 rounds at two correctional officers and an Alvarado police officer, who was shot in the neck and is expected to recover.Who is Benjamin Hanil Song?Song is 32 years old hailing from Dallas, Texas. He served in the US Marine Corps Reserves from 2011 to 2016, receiving an other than honorable discharge at the end of his service. After the July 4 attack, officials believe he hid overnight in the woods near the detention facility. He may have later been spotted on surveillance cameras at DFW Airport on Sunday.Investigators say the attack was highly coordinated, with suspects dressed in military-style black clothing and body armor, and some even covered in mud for concealment. While nearly 70 law enforcement officers responded quickly and arrested ten suspects, Song managed to escape. The FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Song’s arrest, describing him as armed and dangerous.
