Piyush Goyal Meets PM Netanyahu, President Herzog As India-Israel FTA Talks Gain Momentum
India and Israel signalled a renewed push in their economic partnership after Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog in Jerusalem. After over a decade-long lull, both sides emphasised deepening cooperation in trade, technology, and investments. The meetings come as formal negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA), discussed intermittently since 2013, begin to gain political focus. Netanyahu highlighted stronger investment, innovation, and connectivity, calling it a “strategic partnership” with a robust economic corridor from India to Europe. Goyal noted discussions covered trade, investment, science, technology, and innovation. On 20 November, India and Israel signed the terms of reference for the FTA, with both sides confident of constructive and mutually beneficial negotiations.
