Silver Shines Brighter Than Gold This Dhanteras Amid High Prices
India celebrated Dhanteras with bustling jewellery stores and strong consumer sentiment despite soaring gold prices. Interestingly, silver stole the spotlight this year — silver coin sales surged 35–40% year-on-year, with overall value more than doubling, according to PTI. Jewellers across major cities reported heavy footfall, as festive buyers flocked to purchase coins, utensils, and ornaments. The All India Gem and Jewellery Council (GJC) projected a 15% decline in gold volumes due to steep prices, which hovered around ₹1,32,000 per 10 grams in Delhi. Silver prices also corrected slightly to ₹1,70,000 per kg, spurring fresh buying. Dhanteras, marking the start of Diwali, continues to symbolize prosperity and auspicious new beginnings.
