A day after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attacked the Centre amid a row over special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in the state, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut on Wednesday slammed her, saying, “The nation is not going to be afraid of such threats.”

The Mandi MP also compared the issue of illegal immigration in the country to a “cancer” in the body, arguing that India must get rid of infiltrators to protect national security.

“The nation is not going to be afraid of such threats, and the entire country wants sanitisation from these infiltrators. These infiltrators are same as cancer in the body,” Kangana Ranaut told reporters after attending a Constitution Day event at the Old Parliament Building.

What Mamata Banerjee Had Said

While speaking at an anti-SIR rally in Bongaon on Tuesday, Banerjee had questioned the timing and urgency of the revision drive, saying, “PM Modi got votes in 2024 as per the same list. If your name gets deleted, the Central government should also be deleted. Why is SIR being conducted in such a hurry?”

Banerjee also predicted the BJP would lose the upcoming state assembly elections and announced she would embark on a nationwide yatra against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). The TMC supremo also stated that the BJP would be ousted from power at the Centre in 2029.

“If they hurt me, I will show what I can do. I will shake things up. I will move around India after the election,” she remarked. “Bangla has the guts that Bangla will capture the power in Delhi,” she further added.

Ranaut has previously defended the SIR process. Last month, she said opposition parties should welcome the exercise since it would expose fake voters and identify individuals misusing or “selling” voter identification documents.

The Election Commission announced the second phase of the revision on October 27, covering 12 states and Union Territories, including Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal, to be carried out from November to February.
