Amid growing interest in Luigi Mangione, the suspected killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, conspiracy theories doing the rounds on social media claim that Mangione is gay and wanted to do a sex change operation but was denied coverage from United Healthcare. Several other posts called Mangione gay and shared unconfirmed photos of his boyfriends.
But there is no confirmation about Mangione’s relationship status.
RJ Martin, the founder of a co-living space where Mangione stayed from January to June 2022, it was not possible for Mangione to get into a relationship — at least that’s what Mangione at that time told Martin.
Martin told the New York Times that Mangione had undergone back surgery as his spine was kind of misaligned. His lower vertebrae were almost like a half-inch off and it pinched a nerve. Martin said Mangione told him that he was not in a relationship as “he knew that dating and being physically intimate with his back condition wasn’t possible. I remember him telling me that, and my heart just breaks”.
It is not yet known why Mangione targeted Thompson, the 50-year-old CEO of the insurance company and he knew specific information about Brian Thompson’s movement that morning. His overall anguish against all insurance companies is evident in the manifesto recovered from him in which he said these companies only cared about immense profit at the expense of Americans.
A specific mention of UnitedHealthcare is there in the manifesto where it has been referred to as one of the biggest companies in the US. “The reality is these (companies) have gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit,” Mangione wrote.
“I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done,” he wrote in the manifesto. “Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming.”
