‘It’s a big country, they’ll handle it’: Trump calls Ahmedabad plane crash ‘one of the worst in aviation history’; offers US support

NEW DELHI: US President Donald Trump on Thursday reacted to the Ahmedabad plane crash, calling it “a horrific crash” and offered immediate American assistance if needed.Speaking during a press briefing, Trump said, “The plane crash was terrible. I’ve already told them (India), anything we can do… It’s a big country, a strong country.. they’ll handle it, I’m sure. But I let them know that anything we can do will be over there immediately.”Expressing shock over the magnitude of the crash, Trump said, “It looks like most are gone. They may actually have a couple of survivors, which is just hurtful. But that was a horrible crash.”While the cause of the incident remains under investigation, Trump offered his observations. “Nobody knows. Nobody has any idea what it might be. I gave him a couple of pointers. I said, maybe you’ll look at this,” he said, adding that the aircraft appeared to be flying normally before possibly losing engine power.“It didn’t look like there was an explosion. Just looked like the engines maybe lost power. But, boy, that is a terrible crash. It’s one of the worst in aviation history,” he concluded.Trump’s remarks came as Indian authorities continued rescue and recovery operations at the crash site. Official confirmation of casualties and survivors is still awaited.
