Jakarta: Explosion inside mosque injures 54 during Friday prayers; probe under way

At least 54 people were injured after an explosion occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque located inside a school complex in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta.City police chief Asep Edi Suheri confirmed at a televised press conference that the blast took place at a site in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, news agency Reuters reported. He said the injured had been taken to nearby hospitals, with cases ranging from minor to serious, including several burn injuries.Authorities are still investigating the cause of the explosion.Local news channels KompasTV and MetroTV showed footage of police cordoning off the school area, with ambulances stationed nearby. According to the images circulating on social media, the mosque did not suffer significant structural damage.“The initial data we have received indicates that about 54 people were affected. Some sustained minor injuries, some moderate, and some have already been discharged,” Asep told reporters.This is a developing story…
