Vasan Bala’s ‘Jigra‘ starring Alia Bhatt, has struggled to meet box office expectations. Meanwhile, director Vasan Bala recently held himself responsible for the film’s failure.
In a recent conversation with Fever FM, Vasan Bala was asked about Jigra being Alia Bhatt’s lowest box office opener. The filmmaker responded by emphasizing that Alia is the first choice for many filmmakers, and while she could have been working on any other project, she chose ‘Jigra’.
Bala took responsibility for the film’s underperformance, acknowledging that Alia placed her trust in him with her choice. He explained that as a filmmaker, it is his duty to deliver at the box office and reflect on why the audience stayed away, suggesting that something in the film didn’t resonate with them enough to draw them to the theater.
Bala added that if any actor dedicates their time to a project, it is essential to make it worthwhile.
Recently, the filmmaker Vasan Bala’s X (formerly Twitter) account was deactivated just days after he became the target of trolls for defending the box office failure of his film.
Vasan Bala had been actively sharing posts and responding to comments until the previous day. However, his replies now appear as blank boxes with the message, “This post is from an account that no longer exists.”
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director expressed that he doesn’t view box office numbers as the sole measure of a film’s success. However, his remarks were met with criticism, with many social media users labelling him ‘arrogant’ for disregarding the audience’s opinion.
Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Alia Bhatt’s production house, the film was released on October 11, 2024. The film also stars Akansha Ranjan Kapoor, Yuvraj Vijan and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles.
