In response to rising unemployment concerns and following massive protests by youngsters in Dharwad, Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday promised a transparent and “scam-free” recruitment process to fill vacant government positions across Karnataka. The Deputy Chief Minister reassured the protesting youth, emphasising that the state is working on a clear timeline for job placements.

“Our government is dedicated to filling vacant posts without the shadow of scams. To the youth, I say: stay brave. We understand your struggles and will resolve them,” Shivakumar said. He mentioned that the administration is drafting a comprehensive plan, noting, “We have already filled positions in the past, we are doing it now, and we will continue to do so in the future. A formal message regarding this will be shared following an upcoming cabinet discussion.”

Addressing the recent youth protests in Dharwad over government job delays, the Deputy Chief Minister criticised the previous administration. “The BJP government failed to fill these vacancies during their tenure, and their period was marred by numerous scams,” he alleged. “We recognise the pain of our young citizens, and filling these gaps is our top priority. We have already tasked the KPSC and other agencies with recruitment responsibilities in the education and health sectors.” He added that while some hurdles regarding internal reservations persist, the Yuva Nidhi scheme remains a cornerstone of the government’s efforts to support them.

The Deputy Chief Minister also addressed the brewing discontent among state contractors regarding pending bills. He attributed the financial strain to the previous leadership, stating, “Under the Yediyurappa and Bommai governments, many projects were approved without considering the state’s economic health, leading to the current situation.” Despite advising contractors not to undertake works where funding was unconfirmed, he acknowledged that many are now facing hardships. “I will be holding direct discussions with the contractors to address their grievances,” he concluded.
