Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar is expected to arrive in Delhi tonight to meet the Congress high command amid a political crisis in the state for the chief ministerial post, with governance at stake.

“I will definitely go to Delhi. It is our temple. Congress has a long history, and Delhi will always guide us. When they call me, the party leaders and the CM, we will go there,” he told reporters on Friday.

“My community is the Congress. I may belong to one community, and they may like it, but my love is for all sections of society…I don’t want anything; my party will make the decision,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shivakumar’s brother and former Congress MP DK Suresh reached Delhi, but declined to comment on the matter. “I won’t comment on any political issue. Whatever issues are there, the government of Karnataka and the CM will answer. BJP is in opposition, it will always tell other things. BJP wanted to be in the news; that is why they are doing all this. Everything is fine,” he said.

What’s Happening In Karnataka?

The government in Karnataka reached its halfway mark on November 20, a milestone that has revived questions about whether the Chief Minister’s post will change hands over an alleged “power-sharing agreement” between Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar dating back to 2023, a claim the party repeatedly denies but which continues to drive political chatter across the state.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday said he has convened a meeting of senior leaders to address the ongoing power tussle in Karnataka, as supporters of Shivakumar have intensified pressure on the top brass to make him the new CM. He further stressed that no decision will be made without collective consultation.

Both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar have asked the high command to end the ongoing confusion over a possible transition, citing the damage caused by uncertainty around who the Chief Minister will be for the remainder of the term. Siddaramaiah has repeatedly asserted that he intends to serve the full five-year term until 2028.

The two leaders exchanged a war of words on X. Shivakumar insisted that “word power is world power,” prompting a witty repartee from Siddaramaiah, who said, “A word is not power unless it betters the world for the people.”

BJP Mocks Congress Turmoil

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has mocked the internal fighting in Congress ranks. Former Karnataka CM and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai said both Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah had egoistic attitudes and are unwilling to budge, which may compel the party to think of a third alternative.

“CM and Deputy CM both are in a very egoistic attitude. They are not ready to budge an inch. Therefore, the high command is compelled to think of the other alternative. So in this context, a dark horse might emerge in the state,” he said.

Meanwhile, Congress MLC BK Hariprasad attempted once again to quell the speculation, saying the leadership in Karnataka was not in turmoil. “There is no confusion, everybody has confidence in high command, they will take a call on every issue,” he said.
