BJP Kerala Vice President C Krishnakumar on Wednesday refuted allegations of sexual harassment against him, calling it an attempt to divert attention from protests against Rahul Mamkootathil.
Congress leader and Palakkad MLA Mamkootathil is also facing multiple sexual misconduct allegations.
“I would like to make one thing clear by bringing up all this, if you think you can threaten me and make me back off from the protests against Rahul Mamkootathil, that will not happen. BJP Palakkad will move ahead with strong protests… The people of Palakkad know that there is no truth in these allegations against me,” Krishnakumar said.
The woman submitted a complaint to Kerala BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, accusing Krishnakumar of sexually assaulting her a few years ago. She claimed that no action was taken against the BJP leader even after she submitted her grievance to V Muraleedharan, MT Ramesh, and Subhash (then Organisation General Secretary), Malayalam news website Manorama reported.
The complainant said Krishnakumar lacked the moral right to lead protests against Rahul Mamkootathil and demanded that the BJP should expel him.
Rahul Mamkootathil quit as Youth Congress state president and was also suspended from primary membership of the Congress after Malayalam actress Rini Ann George accused “a young leader” of a well-known political party of misbehaviour. George accused the leader of sending her offensive messages on multiple occasions and inviting her to a hotel. Subsequently, several women and a transgender person accused him of similar charges.
Reacting to allegations, Mamkootathil called George his “friend” and said he would take the legal course if there was any complaint against him.
Krishnakumar, a face of the BJP in Palakkad for several years, has been leading the protests against Mamkootathil.
Mamkootathil was elected as MLA in November last year in a by-election held for the Palakkad seat, following the election of party leader and then sitting MLA Shafi Parambil as Lok Sabha MP from Vatakara in the general election.
