Leisure almost turns to tragedy: Swimmers narrowly escape falling boulders at Utah waterfall - video

A leisure swim at a waterfall in Utah, United States turned into a moment of chaos and panic after large boulders suddenly fell near a group of visitors. The incident occurred on June 24 at Lower Calf Creek Falls. Several visuals of the mishap went viral on social media and it showed how close people came to getting seriously hurt. The video, sourced from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah, shows visitors enjoying the water when a huge chunk of rock crashes down from the cliffs above, splashing into the water just feet away from them. There were no injuries were reported, however, park officials urged people to stay alert while visiting the area.NBC News posted the video on Instagram with the caption: “Swimmers narrowly missed being hit by large boulders falling in Utah.” The video garnered over 632K views. One user commented, “Literally the luckiest people I’ve seen in a very long time,” while another added, “Wow… that must’ve been horrifying to watch as this person was recording. Thank God they are okay!”Park authorities explained that due to the shape of the cliff’s overhang, rocks can fall far from the base, reaching both the swimming area and the shore. This has made the site risky for visitors and officials say safety remains their top priority, as reported by Fox Weather. “This is not a backyard swimming pool, but rather a remote and natural place,” said Ade Nelson, National Monument Manager. “Outdoor recreation can be inherently unpredictable. Lower Calf Creek Falls is a world-famous destination, and we want to make sure everyone understands the risks when they visit.”The BLM noted that last year, a visitor was injured by a falling rock and had to be airlifted for medical care. Since then, safety assessments have been ongoing and authorities are working to determine future steps to protect visitors.
