While extending congratulations to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on the victory, Stalin did not hold back in criticising what he called the ECI’s declining credibility.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president MK Stalin reacted strongly to the National Democratic Alliance’s sweeping victory in the 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, terming the result both a “lesson” for the INDIA alliance and a reminder of what he described as the “misdeeds” of the Election Commission of India (ECI).

While extending congratulations to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Stalin did not hold back in criticising what he called the ECI’s declining credibility. Notably, DMK is part of the opposition INDIA bloc.

What Stalin said?

In a detailed post on X, Stalin congratulated JD(U) chief Nitish Kumar for the NDA’s decisive win, saying the veteran leader had earned the trust of the people of Bihar. He also appreciated RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav for leading a spirited and energetic campaign despite the opposition alliance’s poor overall performance.

However, Stalin’s message soon shifted to a sharp rebuke of the Election Commission. Branding the ECI as partial in his remarks, he stated that the election results do not “whitewash the misdeeds and reckless actions” of the Commission.

“The reputation of the ECI is at its lowest point,” he wrote, adding that the electorate deserved a stronger and more impartial institution whose conduct should inspire confidence even among losing candidates.

He emphasised that election outcomes are shaped by welfare delivery, ideological clarity, and consistent campaign management, all lessons that the INDIA bloc must absorb as it prepares for future political battles.

Bihar verdict

The Bihar Assembly Election 2025 produced a resounding mandate for the NDA, which secured 202 of the 243 seats. The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged as the single-largest party with 89 seats, while its ally, the Janata Dal (United), led by Nitish Kumar, won 85 seats. The Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) added further weight to the alliance with 19 seats.

In sharp contrast, the opposition Mahagathbandhan struggled to make an impact. The Rashtriya Janata Dal secured only 25 seats, a steep fall from its earlier performance, while the Congress managed just six. AIMIM picked up five seats.

Tejashwi Yadav did retain his Raghopur constituency, but the broader electoral mood clearly favoured the NDA, paving the way for Nitish Kumar to return as Chief Minister for yet another record-breaking term.

The results came as a blow to the opposition alliance, underscoring the challenges ahead. Stalin’s remarks reflect a wider churn within the INDIA bloc as leaders reassess strategy, messaging and organisational strength following the NDA’s emphatic victory.
