With the US-China trade war escalating, MAGA activists pushed for a crackdown on Chinese students studying in US universities. Hundreds of students have lost their students’ visas in the recent few days as the Trump administration is targeting students with links to anti-Israel protests that rocked the campuses last year. Many without any connection to any campus activism lost their visas, according to reports. Chinese students are caught in the crosshairs of the political conflict and fear being targeted over the tariff war.
After rattling the global economy with his tariffs, Donald Trump announced a 90-day pause on these tariffs but not for China. Instead, he increased China’s tariff to 125 per cent. The 125 per cent tariff came after China increased US tariff to 84 per cent. This was the second phase of the US-China back-and-forth. In the first, China announced 34 per cent tariff in reply to the US’s 34 per cent tariff.
China has not yet responded to the 125 per cent tariff but gives no indication of blinking.
MAGA activist Laura Loomer uppted the ante as she ranted against China on X and said Trump should deport Xi Jinping’s daughter from the US. “Wish we could start revoking Chinese student visas to teach China a lesson. Send them back,” Loomer posted. Though Laura Loomer is majorly dismissed as a conspiracy theorist, she recently got several staff of the National Security Council fired.
Does Xi Jinping’s daughter live in the US?
A few years ago, it was claimed that Chinese president Xi Jinping’s only daughter Xi Mingze lived in America and studied at Harvard. However, the information was never confirmed. Republican leader, former US rep Vicky Hartzler made this revelation in 2022 while she introduced the “Protecting Higher Education from the Chinese Communist Party Act’. It was claimed that Xi’s daughter came to the US in 2010 and studied at Harvard under a pseudonym but not many people were aware of it until 2012. Unverified reports claimed that she returned to China but again came back to the US in 2019.
