Police in Dublin detained a man on Sunday following a “serious incident” in which local media reported that up to four people were stabbed. The incident occurred in the Stoneybatter area of the Irish capital, with emergency services and a heavy police presence at the scene.
A police statement confirmed the arrest, saying, “A male has been arrested and is currently detained. There is no ongoing risk to the public at this time.” Authorities added that further details would be provided when available.
The Irish Times reported that the suspect used regular household items in the attacks, with at least one victim being assaulted at their doorstep. Police currently do not suspect a terror link, according to sources.
None of the victims’ injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
A resident of the area described witnessing the scene, saying, “I saw a lot of garda cars arrive really fast… I saw a guy running, and they dived on him outside a house. He just screamed and screamed, ‘leave me alone.’ He was terrified, like someone who wasn’t expecting that to happen. And then it all stopped.”
