Michigan mishap: Pickup truck surpasses stop sign, collides with a van; 6 dead

At least six people were killed when a pickup truck ran a stop sign and collided with a van in a rural area of Michigan, authorities said. The accident occurred Tuesday afternoon in Gilford Township, Tuscola County, about 100 miles (161 kilometers) north of Detroit.Thirteen people were in the two vehicles at the time, including ten passengers in the van, the sheriff’s office reported.“Multiple passengers were ejected from the van and the pickup,” the sheriff’s office said on Facebook. “At this time there are six confirmed fatalities, and the condition of the additional patients is unknown.”Undersheriff Robert Baxter confirmed that the van was carrying members of a local Amish community. “They had a paid driver in the van,” he said. “I’m not sure where they were headed or where they were coming from. They are county residents.”Seven people were taken to a hospital, though authorities have not released updates on their conditions.
