Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, emphasising that his resolute actions on national security and terrorism have defined his tenure. In an exclusive interview with Network18 Group Editor-in-Chief Rahul Joshi, Shah highlighted the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, which he said was a crucial step to “secure the nation” and assert that Kashmir is an integral part of India. Shah stated that this move, which came in the first term of PM Modi’s second premiership, will be remembered for its importance in curbing terrorism and strengthening the country’s unity.

Beyond this historic decision, Shah underscored the government’s “zero-tolerance policy against terrorism”. He cited military operations such as the surgical strikes and the more recent Operation Sindoor as evidence that this policy is not a mere slogan but a decisive course of action. He referred to past major terror attacks, such as 26/11 in Mumbai, noting that India’s response in the past was often restrained. In contrast, he said, the Modi government has demonstrated a willingness to deliver a “tough response” to protect India’s borders, army, and citizens.

Shah mentioned Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror bases deep inside Pakistan, as a testament to this resolve. He said the operation “left the whole world in awe” of India’s action, a feat he attributed directly to the government’s determination. By striking at the source of terrorism and teaching a lesson to those who threaten India’s sovereignty, Shah said that the Modi government has fundamentally changed the country’s security posture and sent a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated.
